This course starts from Kamakura Station, goes up the Kewaizaka Slope, and takes the Genjiyama Hiking Course to the Kamakura Daibutsu (Great Buddha). Kewaizaka is one of the so-called “Seven Entrances of Kamakura.”

You turn left from the road to Kaizoji Temple and up the slope. It’s a residential area for a while, but at the end, there’s a steep staircase waiting for you. Once you climb it, you’ll reach Genjiyama Park.

You could go down to Zeniarai Benten Shrine right away, but that would take you back to the west exit of Kamakura Station, so I decided to walk the hiking course to the Great Buddha. By the time I got to the Great Buddha, I was pretty exhausted.

鎌倉駅から化粧坂を登って源氏山ハイキングコースに出て鎌倉大仏まで抜けるコースです。化粧坂はいわゆる鎌倉七口の一つです。海蔵寺へ行く道の途中から左に折れて登っていくのですが途中までは住宅街ですが最後に階段状の険しい坂道が待っています。そこを登り切ると源氏山公園です。銭洗弁天の方へすぐに降りてもいいのですが、それだとまた鎌倉駅西口に戻ってしまうので、ハイキングコースを歩いて大仏まで行ってみました。大仏に着く頃にはけっこうへとへとになってしまいました。
